About

I founded 03 Metal Works in 2014 with the goal of making knives and tools for everyday use.

I grew up in Westchester County, NY and spent much of my childhood drawing, fishing,
skateboarding, riding BMX and exploring the woods with my friends.

Creating art and music have always been a big part of my life. Taking the ideas or thoughts in my head and committing them to whatever media it is I’m working with is something I’ve always needed as an outlet.

After graduating high school I thought I knew everything and found out quickly that I didn’t know jack shit. Shortly thereafter, watching CNN and seeing young men my age heading to Kuwait for Desert Shield it dawned on me that I needed some structure and accountability in my life…so I joined the United States Marine Corps.
I served from 1990-1996 in both Security Forces Battalions and the First Marine Division.
Never saw any combat but we got to shoot and blow a lot of stuff up.

After I got out, I started working in IT doing desktop support and over the years built a decent career in technology.
In 2014, I stumbled across a few people on Instagram making some really cool knives in their garages and I was hooked. I proceeded to watch every YouTube video I could find, read every article and ask a lot of people an annoying volume of questions before scraping together $1,000.00 for a Grizzly 2×72 grinder, some belts and a few pieces of D2 tool steel.

Within 6 months, I’d managed to get my head around the fundamentals and basics and started to build a modest following on Instagram.

I’m never going to be a member of the Knife Maker’s Guild and I’m sure as hell never going to make knives intended to sit in a safe or on a shelf. My goal is to make purpose-driven, unique and functional knives and tools that look cool and
my customers won’t be scared to put to work.
